Some People You Might Wanna Know... ;D AND ALSO VOTE ON MY POLL!

Hey!!!!!!!!!!!! SuperSara here, with another blog! (Noooo, you thought I was gonna sell you pancakes, haha, too bad for you) Okay, so the last blog was, um, well, what I like to call a SuperSaraSuperDisappointment  D: Yeah, it was pretty bad! I admit it!! But this blog is gonna be awesomeeee!!! Ok, you guys are probably thinking "Enough with the chit-chat, let's get a move on!" I totally agree...

So today our topic is... FAMOUS SCIENTISTS!! Let's start with Francis Crick ... (who is that..? : / )

Francis Crick was born on June 8th (heyyy, that's my brother's birthday!), 1916 in North Hampton, England. He studied physics at a university in London. Then he was gonna get his Ph.D, but the war interrupted him. (UGH! STUPID WAR) He then worked as a scientists for the war, having a "connection with magnetic and acoustic mines". He left in 1947 to study biology. Over the next few years, he started helping prove the theory of the X-ray. On day in 1951, Crick's friend (James Watson) came up to him with the idea of the double-helix structure that is DNA. He has won many science awards, including a Nobel prize. Crick died on July 28th, 2004, shortly after his 88th birthday of colon cancer. D:

  Up next.... JAMES WATSON!!!

James Watson was born on April 6th,  1928 in Chicago, Illinois. He loved bird-watching as a kid, and this turned serious when he got his Ph.D in zoology in 1950. He had to learn about genetics; it was serious desire of his. In 151, he came to Francis Crick (hey, I think I've heard of him before...) with the idea of the double helix DNA blahblahblah you know this already. They win the Nobel prize together for this. He is still alive at the age of 83 years old.

And the next is... SEVERO OCHOA!!!

Severo Ochoa was born on September 24th, 1905 in Luarca, Spain. He was named after his father. He went to Malaga College. His interests were mostly biology, but also medicine. He went to medical school until 1929. He was the assistant to many scientists, mainly having to do with biochemistry and biology. He became the head of medical research, and from 1938-1941 he did research on the biology of vitamin B. When he was at Oxford he became interested in "enzymatic mechanisms of oxidative metabolism" (whatever that means) and in 1941 he moved to America. He went to another university in Washington (man, he went to college like 6 times!!!!) In 1956 he became an American citizen. He died in 1993.

Barbara McClintock is next... OH YEAH A GIRL!!

Barbara McClintock was born on June 16, 1902 in Hartford, Connecticut. She began her studies in Cornell College of Agriculture in 1919, studying botany (plant science). Her interest in genetics began in 1921, two years before she graduated in 1923. She had taken a course in that field. She recieved her Ph.D from Cornell in 1927. In the 20's, she was working with maize (corn) chromosomes and how the change during reproduction. Her work was amazing. She produced the first genetic map of... I wouldn't of guessed it, maize! She linked regions of chromosomes with physical traits, even proving things about meiosis! (Man, who knew corn could do so much) She died on September 2, 1992 at 90 years old.
